"Bam!"She slammed the door shut.Akeelah stomped with fury as she threw herself onto a chair. She tossed her bag onto the bed with anger. She breathe deeply, trying not to let tears stream down her cheeks.Then slowly, she lowered her head. Thoughts of winning the competition that flashed through her mind just now were lost. Why must my mother do this to me? Akeelah thought. She knew she has the ability and the talent to win the Spelling Competition. Akeelah shrugged, raising her head. She saw her father's photograph. The radiant smile, the eyes that looked just like Akeelah's, and his shaved moustache. At that moment, Akeelah wished that her father was here. "You would let me do it," she sighed. Her father's photograph seemed to approve. out of the blue, Akeelah had an idea. Should she forge her father's signature? She looked at her father's photograph which seem to urge her to do it. Reaching for a pen and the registration form, Akeelah thought like her father and how his signature would look like.

I can't join the competition because of you!" she screamed as tears started streaming down her cheeks. Then, she slowly sat up and stared at her father's photo when he won the Swimming Championship, yearning for a father's love.

There was something so honest and kind in his face, and he looked so likely to be heartbrokenly disappointed if she did not take it, that Sara knew she must not refuse him. To be as proud as that would be a cruel thing. So she actually put her pride in her pocket, though it must be admitted that her cheeks burnt.
