1)It stood empty and silent this early in the morning. The dark upstairs windows looked like huge, accusing eyes, staring at him. The front door hadn’t even been unlocked yet. 2)On the first day of the court proceedings, Gerald held Angel’s hand as they sat on the worn brown bench in the hall outside the courtroom. Monique’s high heels clicked on the polished floor as she paced back and forth. 3)Gerald felt weak and heavy.
