The Compo Title :)
Hey 5.11! Does anyone know what is the compo title ? But I think for safety purposes, so that Mrs Chan will not scold, I think all of us should just do the Hungry Boy composition. I will check the class blog again tonight so if there is any last minute changes stated on the class blog, we will follow the relay system. I will call the group leaders and the group leaders will inform the rest of your group members. If I do not have the group members' number, I think I will call someone from the group and the 'someone' will call the other group members okay ? If you don't understand me, I think you will just call the other group members if I happen to call you, okay ? Thanks and Regards (: Yew Zhi Yu 5.11'09!!! :P

Cai Shi's Snapshots
Author: Cai Shi~ Akeelah and the bee "Bam!"She slammed the door shut.Akeelah stomped with fury as she threw herself onto a chair. She tossed her bag onto the bed with anger. She breathe deeply, trying not to let tears stream down her cheeks. Then slowly, she lowered her head. Thoughts of winning the competition that flashed through her mind just now were lost. Why must my mother do this to me? Akeelah thought. She knew she has the ability and the talent to win the Spelling Competition. Akeelah shrugged, raising her head. She saw her father's photograph. The radiant smile, the eyes that looked just like Akeelah's, and his shaved moustache. At that moment, Akeelah wished that her father was here. "You would let me do it," she sighed. Her father's photograph seemed to approve. out of the blue, Akeelah had an idea. Should she forge her father's signature? She looked at her father's photograph which seem to urge her to do it. Reaching for a pen and the registration form, Akeelah thought like her father and how his signature would look like. Author: Cai Shi~Snapshot She stomped in fury, slamming the door behind her. Casey threw herself onto her bed and buried her head on a pillow. "Stupid arm! I hate you! I hate you! I can't join the competition because of you!" she screamed as tears started streaming down her cheeks. Then, she slowly sat up and stared at her father's photo when he won the Swimming Championship, yearning for a father's love. Author: Frances Hodgson Burnett Book title: A little Princess On this afternoon, when she had sat down, the sensation of relief to her short, aching legs had been so wonderful and delightful that it had seemed to soothe her whole body, and the glow of warmth and comfort from the fire had crept over her like a spell, until, until, as she looked at the red coals, a tired, slow smile stole over her smudged face, her head nodded forward without her being aware of it, her eyes drooped, and she fell fast asleep. Nobody but Sara herself ever knew what had happened in her room after she had run upstairs and locked her door. In fact, she herself scarcely remembered anything but that she walked up and down, saying over and over again to herself in a voice that did not seem her own. "My papa is dead! My papa is dead!" He thrust the sixpence into her hand. "Yes, you must take it, poor girl!" he insisted stoutly. "you can buy things to eat with. It is a whole sixpence!" There was something so honest and kind in his face, and he looked so likely to be heartbrokenly disappointed if she did not take it, that Sara knew she must not refuse him. To be as proud as that would be a cruel thing. So she actually put her pride in her pocket, though it must be admitted that her cheeks burnt. Done by: CS

Xin Hui's Snapshotz..
Each day Roald Dahl sat in his mother’s old armchair next to a low table upon which was arranged small personal objects that formed a landscape through which his thoughts could roam. He would sharpen six pencils and then begin to write on lined foolscap pads of yellow paper. On another table stood a black desk lamp draped with a flannel which kept it at the perfect angle over his home-made green baize writing board. An old eiderdown (a bed covering placed on top of sheets and blankets that is filled with small soft feathers or warm material) covered his legs. A shabby suitcase had been nailed to the floor so that he could press against it to ease the pain in his back. Behind a small brown cushion at the base of the chair back I discovered a roughly cut hole which one day in desperation he had made to alleviate (make pain or suffering less intense or severe) the pressure of abscesses (a painful swelling containing pus) which formed on his spine. In my mind I went down that dark hole to search for clues that might have triggered his thoughts. I imagined his spinal column as a fuel pipe to his brain which was the engine that drove his powers of invention. Adapted from: Roald Dahl Treasury-The Hut by Ralph Steadman At this point, a lady with an ENORMOUS chest (they didn’t exactly capitalize it in the book, but… you know…hehe) and flaming orange hair came flying out of the house screaming,”My jewels! Somebody’s stolen my jewels! My diamond tiara! My diamond necklace! My diamond bracelets! My diamond earrings! My diamond rings! They’ve had the lot! My rooms have been ransacked!” And then this massive female, who fifty-five years ago had been a world-famous opera-singer, suddenly burst into song. “My diamonds are over the ocean, my diamonds are over the sea, my diamonds were pinched from my bedroom, oh, bring back my diamonds to me.” We were so bowled over by the power of the lady’s lungs that all of us, excepting the Pelican, who had to keep his beak closed, joined in the chorus. “Bring back, bring back, oh, bring back my diamonds to me, to me. Bring back, bring back, oh, bring back my diamonds to me!” Adapted from: The Roald Dahl Treasury-The Giraffe and the Pelly and Me by Roald Dahl The moment the Duke popped one of the Scarlet Scorchdroppers into his mouth, thick smoke came gushing out of the old boy’s nostrils in such quantities that I thought his moustaches were going up in flames. Adapted from: The Roald Dahl Treasury-The Giraffe and the Pelly and Me by Roald Dahl The two hooded black eyes of the turtle peered up at the boy. The eyes were bright and lively, full of the wisdom of great age. The boy looked back at the turtle, and his time when he spoke, his voice was soft and intimate. “Goodbye, old man,” he said. “Go far away this time.” The black eyes remained resting on the boy for a few seconds more. Nobody moved. Then, with great dignity, the massive beast turned away and began waddling toward the edge of the ocean. He didn’t hurry. He moved sedately over the sandy beach, the big shell rocking gently from side to side as he went. Soon, he was swimming. He was in his element now. He swam gracefully and very fast, with the head held high. The sea was calm, and he made little waves that fanned out behind him on both sides, like the waves of a boat. It was several minutes before we lost sight of him, and by then he was half-way to the horizon. Adapted from: The Roald Dahl Treasury-The Boy Who Talked with Animals from The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar by Roald Dahl There is a man who has a fierce but friendly smile on his face. When he smiles, he looks like the most amiable man the world has ever seen. Sometimes, he furrows his eyebrows and sticks his inhaler into his nostril as mathematical calculations run through his head while he tries to figure out sums. When he is in a good mood, you can see that look on his face that seems to say “Let’s horse around!”. He is my father. By Xin Hui XD Author: Nur Syazana The television was switched on. "Tingting..tingting.." the phone kept ringing. The smell of curry was coming out from the kitchen too. My brother was doing his homework, at the same time watching telvision and texting his friends. He had pimples all over his face. His hair was comb neatly. "How to do this?" I heard him asking himself. He is very good in Mathematics, as well as in Science, but things may be difficult sometime. Author: Tony Abbott Title of Book: Firegirl Courtney was beautiful. She had dark, almost-black hair and her skin was sort of creamy white. She didn't have freckles or the pimples and blotches that Darlene Roberts had, who was three desks in front of her. Author: Tony Abbott Title of Book: Firegirl But when Courtney began to read parts of the book she had chosen for the group, she spoke so clearly and with all the ups and downs in her voice that helped you understand what the characters were feeling, that I almost couldn't bear it when she stopped and Kayla began to read. Author: Tony Abbott Title of Book: This is how it worked. It could be just an ordinary day- like today in school with the teachers and books and milk cartons and the smell of lockers and backpacks all around me- and I would suddenly sense that Courtney was in dangert and I would have to rescue her.
Akeelah and the bee(Show-don't tell)
Akeelah slammed the door furiously, threw her bag onto the ground, and sat down at her table. She furrowed her black, bushy eyebrows as she thought about her mother’s unfairness towards her. She had not allowed her to take part in the spelling bee contest and thinking of that, her blood started to boil. She looked round and round her messy room and her eyes finally laid upon a photograph of her handsome father. As she squinted her eyes towards her father’s smiling face, she said to herself disappointedly “You’ll let me do it.” Knowing that her father had kicked the bucket, she slowly picked up a blue pen and looked at the neatly placed consent form. Her father seemed to encourage her to do it. A sly smile spread across her face as she forged her father’s signature on the form. Contributed by:Eric Leow Yu Quan Based on the movie(Akeelah and the Bee) 1. Akeelah ran to her room angrily, slammed the door with her foot threw her bag on the floor and sat down on her wooden chair. She thought about the conflict shehad with her mother and could not understand exactly why her mother disallowed her from articipating the spelling bee. Now nobody would be signing the consent form. She looked up slowly and saw the picture of a man with gleaming eyes and chubby cheeks. He was Akeelah's father.'You'll let me do it' she said before buring her head in her hands once again. Just then, she had a brainwave. Why not forge father's signature? Akeelah thought. She always knew how to sign father's signature.Akeelah decided on what to do. She picked up her pen and signed the consent form. Written by Fan Xi Based on the movie Akeelah and the Bee Snapshot (1) The fight grew more intense as each second ticked by.Mother was furious. My brother had failed his test.Mother's eyes sharpen and her brows were knitted firmly together.I cringed at one corner of the house.Tear tricked down my brother's red cheeks. He was looking innocent and fearful. My mother raised her palm and smacked it went.It landed on my brother's face.A red palm print appeared on his face.Poor brother.*** ***This is not true. Author:Tham Shi Ning Snapshot(2) Will crouched down and tried to blend with the lost property box, which he nearly did because he was wearing so muchof it.He began to think things to make the footsteps stop.Really big things like I will be nice to Lucy for the whole of tomorrow or even all next week. But it was no doing any good. The footsteps came slowly nearer. And finally,as he watched,a figure came round the corner. Author:Simon Mason Book Title:The Quigleys at large Snapshot (3) He went down the corner until he came to his peg.And on his peg was his coat .He smelt it to make sure it was his,and put it on and grinned to himself. His thinking had worked sometimes .Before he left,he peeped into his empty classroom through the window in the door.It was filled with sunshine, and dust swam in the yellow light. Author:Simon Mason Book Title:The Quigleys at large Done by:Tham Shi Ning 1. Rain was still lashing at the windows, which were now inky black, but inside all looked bright and cheerful. The firelight glowed over the countless squashy armchair where people sat reading, talking, doing homework or,in the case of Fred and George Weasley, trying to find out what would happen if you fed a Filibuster Firework to a salamander. Fred had 'rescued'the brillant orange,fire-dwelling lizard from a Care of Magical Creature class and it was now smouldering gently on a table surrounded by a knot of curious people. 2. The sun had now begun to shine weakly on Hogwarts again.Inside the castle, the mood had grown more helpful. There had been no more attacks since those on Justin and Nearly Headless Nick, and Madam Pomfrey was pleased to report that the Mandrakes were becoming moody and secretive meaning that they were fast leaving childhood. Snapshots by Soon Ying
Snapshot 1: Charlotte was having a diffcult time focusing in Ms O'Reilly's first period social studies class. She had to keep pretending there was a big red sign in front of her blinking PAY ATTENTION! This was unusual for her, because social studies involved one of her favourite topics——the adventures of famous people in history. But how on earth was Charlotte supposed to pay attention to Ms O'Reilly when her mind was on a differnt kind of adventure:the surprise adventure that she and Nick and Chelsea had been planning for weeks. The adventures she was supposed to announce to the whole class in five minutes! Snapshot 2: Charlotte felt her stomach do a somersault. It was bad enough she had been caught passing notes, but now she was going to be humiliated by having to share the note with the whole class. She probably should have been used to public humiliation by now considering herself as the class klutz. But Charlotte wasn't. To her, embarrassment was embarrassment no matter how many times it happened. Snapshot 3: There it was——finally the cheers and clapping she'd been waiting for. Of course people would be excited about a big beachside overnight on Cape Cod. Charlotte herself loved everything about the Cape——the sandy beaches, salt water taffing, sailing and digging for clams on the shore. Before moving with her father to Tanzania, then Australia and Paris, they had spent several precious weeks on the Cape. And that was alreaddy enough to make Charlotte fall in love with it. My own snapshot: It was just like any other day in November——rainy, cool with the fire in the fireplace crackling. Father sat down on the massage chair, holding his cup of tea in one hand. He sipped his tea carefully, trying not to scald his lips. He set the cup on the coffee table, switch on the television, and spread his precious atlason the table. He loves looking at it. Studying it. My father and I both love geography. Father squinted at the map even with his glasses on, not to mention a magnifiying glass, too! His finger slide across the map and rested on a place——Singapore. Where we used to live... Done by Soon Ying

When Akeelah won the spelling bee competetionwhich took part in her school, her principal suddenly stood up and told her to spell the word "persdititation"in a firm voice.Even the judges said she was only 11 years old and the word is too difficult for her, but the principal did not care and acted as if he was deaf. And repeated the word in a even firmer voice and it sounded like he was about to blow up.Akeelah broke into cold sweat, looking if anyone would help her. She started to tremble and think at the same time.Everyone looked at her thinking she is hopeless, But Akeelah wanted to prove them wrong. Yu Yang Xue 1)The sun shone down for nearly a week on the secret garden. The Secret Garden was what Mary called it when she was thinking of it.She liked the name, and she liked still more the feeling that when its beautiful old walls shut her in,no one knew where she was.It seemed almost like being shut out of the world in some fairy place. 2)He said it a great million times-not a thousand times, but quite a goodly number.Mary listened entranced. She felt as if it were at once queer and beautiful and she wanted him to go on and on.Ben Weatherstaff began to feel soothed into a sort of dream which was quite agreeable. The humming of bees in the blossoms minged with the chanting voice and drowsily melted into a doze. 3)And it was not two months before he swallowed the last of his beer and waved his mug solemnly toward the window which took in through the shrubbery a piece of the lawn. Title:The Secret Garden Author:Frances Hodgson Burnett My own snapshot Luke was doing his tuition testpaper at the eleventh hour.He still had a few answers to jot down, but his fingers were already aching. He scrawled untidily on his answer paper. His handwriting was so untidy that even he could not make out what he had scribbled. It was illegible. He tried to recollect the answer to a question, but to no avail. His mind had gone blank. The words seemed to swim across the page.He tried hard to concentrate. He wonder if his teacher would scold him for the untidy handwriting...... Chua Xin Ying 1)It stood empty and silent this early in the morning. The dark upstairs windows looked like huge, accusing eyes, staring at him. The front door hadn’t even been unlocked yet. 2)On the first day of the court proceedings, Gerald held Angel’s hand as they sat on the worn brown bench in the hall outside the courtroom. Monique’s high heels clicked on the polished floor as she paced back and forth. 3)Gerald felt weak and heavy. He felt like he couldn’t breathe, like a stone wall was sitting on his chest with the bricks running through the veins. Contributed by Lim Zheng Theng Book: Forged By Fire Author:Sharon M. Draper Title Of Book: Best Mate Author: Michael Murpurgo 1) But Best Mate didn't move. There was a low growl in the back of his throat, which was very unlike him. His ears were laid back on his head, and his whole body was trembling. 2) Best Mate looked at him once more for reassurance. At that moment a swallow swooped down over their heads, and skimmed away over the grass- it was as if he was teasing Best Mate, taunting him. Best Mate didn't hesitate. He was gone, gathering speed with every bounding stride, his neck straining, following the swallow's every twist and turn. 3) After a few minutes Alfie seemed satisfied, because he came and stood alongside him then, very close, their shoulders touching. Becky could see that two of them were friends already. Alfie stood almost a head high. He was resting his chin on Brighteyes's neck, and this must have been a great comfort to Brighteyes because very soon the trembling stopped altogether. 4) I lay down on my bed, trembling from head to toe. In just a few seconds, my father would come barging in with my sister alongside. Tears trickled down my cheeks. My heart missed a beat as I heard the footsteps. I stopped my sniffling and pretended to fall asleep, pretending nothing had ever happened. ( This one is from me.) _______________________ Akeelah and the Bee The door creaked loudly as Akeelah opened the door. Beads of sweat tricked down her cheeks. Her heart missed a beat when she heard her mother say, " Where the hell have you been?" Akeelah turned around hastily and stuttered on every word. She knew she was in hot soup and could not get away this time. Soon a talk escalated into a arguement. Akeelah's eyes turned puffy and red. Her mother looked daggers at her, though she looked tired and disappointed. Akeelah turned around, and stormed towards the door of her bedroom. Cheeks flushing and ears burning, she slammed the door. Hello classmates. I am so sorry to post my snapshots at such a late hour. I have ame up with a few snapshots but I was out the whole day today so I only had time to post my snapshots at this hour. At least it is not Monday yet. Snapshots from Book 1) Charlie put one arm behind my back, not quite touching me, and let me to the glass doors of the exit. I waved sheepishly at my friends, hoping to convey that they didn't need to worry anymore. It was a huge relief -- a first time I'd ever felt that way -- to get into the cruiser. (Title: Twilight) (Author: Stephenie Meyer) 2) We drove in silence. I was so wrapped up in my thoughts that I barely knew Charlie was there. I was positive that Edward's defensive behaviour in the hall was a confirmation of the bizarre things I still could hardly believe I'd witnessed. (Title: Twlight) (Author: Stephenie Meyer) 3) Then a doctor walked around the corner, and my mouth fell open. He was young, he was blond... and he was handsomer than any movie star I'd ever seen. He was pale, though and tired-looking, with circles under his eyes. From Charlie's description, this had to be Edward's father. (Title: Twilight) (Author: Stephenie Meyer) My own snapshot: My father was a tall, rotound man who is neither tall nor short. He reads his newspapers with his leg lifted high on the coffee table. Everytime, he would place his presbyopic glasses on the sofa seat next to him. When I would like to sit beside him and bond with him, he would say, "Be careful ah! My spectacles are there!" Akeelahs's description: Akeelah slammed the door shut, using her legs to kick it. Bang! The anger inside her was too unbearable and smoke could almost be seen coming out of her ears. She dumped her bag with great force onto her bed and pulled out the chair. She slumped onto the chair and stared hard at her father's photo. Akeelah's father had passed away and her mother has single-handedly brought her up. Akeelah was talented in her spelling and was asked to join a Spelling Bee competition. She knew her mother would definitely disagree, thinking it was just a waste of time and would do her no good. "You would help me," Akeelah muttered silently, as if talking to her father in the picture. She stared hard on the table, again. Thoughts ran through her head. She pursed her lips as she knew she needed to think of an idea to enter the Spelling Bee competition. Suddenly, a wild idea struck her. She grabbed her form and took a black pen. Feeling guilty and worried, Akeelah brought her hand to forge her father's signature: Samuel Anderson. ZhiYu :) 1)We were playing on the empty road near our house. Fields of tall corn stretched into the distance wherever you looked. A dirty gray dog ran out of the field near us ,and then he ran back in. Lynn loved animals. Her long black hair disappeared into the corn as she chased the dog. The summer sky was clear and blue . I felt a brief fear as Lynn disappeared into the cornstalks. When she wasn't in school, she stayed with me constantly. 2)Somehow or other, Lynn got behind me and said,"Boo!" and i cried some more. She just laughed and hugged me and said,"You're the best little sister in the world!" I liked it when she say that ,so i stopped crying. The dog ran off. We lay on our backs in the middle of the road and stared at the blue sky. Some days nobody at all drove down our little road. We could have lain on our backs all day and never got hit. 3)Lynn pulled at the dog's tail and shouted at me,"Run, Katie, run!" I ran, hearing the dog growling and Lynnie grunting. When I got to the house, I turned around and saw the dog tearing at Lynn's pants as she huddled into a ball. I ran inside and looked for a weapon. Icouldn't think straight. I got a milk bottle out of the fridge and ran toward Lynn and throw the bottle at the dog. The bottle missed the dog and broke on the street. The dog rushed to lap up the milk. Title: kira-kira Author: Cynthia kadohata Yu Yang Xue Author: J.K. Rowling Title: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows 1) The huge snake emerged to climb slowly up to Veldemort's chair. It rose, seemingly endlessly, and came to rest across Voldemort's shoulders: its neck the thickness of a man's thigh; its eyes, with their vertical slits for pupils, unblinking. Voldemort stroked the creature absently with long, thin fingers, still looking at Lucius Malfoy. 2) Autumn seemed to arrive suddenly that year. The morning of the first of September was crisp and golden as an apple, and as the little family bobbed across the rumbling road towards the great, sooty station, the fumes of the car exhausts and the breath of pedestrians sparkled like cobwebs in the cold air. Two large cages rattled on top of the laden trolleys the parents were pushing; the owls inside them hooted indignantly, and the red-headed girl trailed tearfully behind her brothers, clutching her father's arm. 3) The hallway was large, dimly lit and sumptuously decorated, with a magnificent carpet covering most of the stone floor. The eyes of the pale-faced portraits on the walls followed Snape and Yaxley as they strode past. The two men halted at a heavy wooden door leading to the next room, hesitated for the space of a heartbeat, then Snape turned the bronze handle. Author: Joycelyn Khoo "Who kicked the ball and smashed my window?" a deafening voice raced through the air, into the boys' ears from the house. Just a few seconds later, a man stormed out of the house. His well-built body was enough to scare the boys out of their wits. Cold sweat began to form on the boys' forehead. They were at the midst of what to do. " So how are you three supposed to pay for this?'' The man stared at the three boys with menacing eyes. "How? Answer me!" The man stormed forward with heavy steps with his muscular thighs, while the boys walk backwards, step by step. " Pay for a new window or I'll call the police!" The man threatened. " Please don't! We'll settle everything," Mark told the man timidly... Joycelyn.

Twilight walked forward eagerly, pushing his way through the overhanging branches. At last, the path opened out into the sunny clearing. The grass was springy and scattered with purple flowers. Golden butterflies fluttered through the warm,sweet-scented air.It was the most secret place Lauren knew. Title: My Secret Unicorn Author: Linda Chapman Feeling disappointed that her plan to help hadn't worked out as she'd hoped,Lauren went into the classroom. As she walked through the door, she saw David talking to a group of his friends. She stopped. David had his new glasses on but,to her relief, his friends didn't seem to be teasing him. Title: My Secret Unicorn Author: Linda Chapman Walking to school in the mornings,Charlie could see great slabs of chocolate piled up high in the shop windows, and he would stop and stare and press his nose against the glass, his mouth watering like mad. Many times a day,he would see other children taking bars of creamy chocolate out and munching them greedily, and that of course, was pure torture. Title: Charlie And The Chocolate Factory Author: Roald Dahl Suddenly, something crashed through the leaves over my head. I gasped and went for cover between the bushes. Um.. Snapshots From The Iron, The Switch and The Broom Cupboard by Michael Lawrence (not sure if to put book name but just put. sorry.) 1. He took the cards from the history man and started shuffling them. Half of them shot straight up into the air, another half shot to the floor, and half slapped him in the face. Mr Hurley asked him to kindly return to his seat. Eejit kindly did so. 2. Several others said the same thing, but before Pitwell could pass them around the door opened and Mr Hurley shimmied in. The big fat grin didn't last long this time, maybe because of all the yelling and people clambering over or standing on the desks. The shrill little voice of Julia Frame shouting, 'Stop it, stop it, take a card!" didn't help, specially when he saw the state of the photocopier. 3. His replacement- Mr Staples- was just as bald as Mr Prior, but he grew his hair extra long on one side and combed it over his dome to try and kid the world he was fully thatched. Mr Staples wore a dark blue blazer with silver buttons, and he had holiday-camp-type badges all down both lapels, except they weren't holiday camp badges, they were badges for religions. Now mine one... (broken eng.) Sounds of cheering fans filled the air as the third goal was given. Eagered spectators from around the world watched football players from Liverpool gave each other big bear hugs with happiness. The players in red were the charming Liverpool, and the whites were Singapore. Swooning girls could be heard as the charms of Fernando Torres filled the stadium. He scored the goal with an easy kick. His wet hair gave out sweat to the fake green grass. He let out a victory cry as the scoreboard showed 3-0. Singapore was on the losing side, but Liverpool fans did wild screams to show their amazement at the speed of the Liverpool players. Then, "prrrtt" went the whistle. Back to the game... [ i dunno if this is 100% true. i was looking at the newspaper and umm... anyhow do it. pls don't sue me. i am soooo not a big fan of Liverpool players. k? though some of them quite cute. hehe.]
"Slam!" Akeela ran into her room and slammed the door behind her. Tossing her backpack to a side, she sat down in front of her computer, too upset to do anything. Her eyes darted around the room and they rested on a picture of her father, who looked as if he was smiling at her. Akeela's father had the same brown eyes as her, and she could not help but notice how much she looked like him. " You'll let me do it," she sighed, disappointed by the fact that her mother would never let ber go for the spelling bee. Just then, thoughts raced through her mind as she finally came upon the idea of forging her mother's signature. She reached for the consent form, which was placed neatly on the table, despite the fact that every other thing there was in a big mess. Picking up her pen, she wondered for a split second if she should do it. Then, she remembered her mother's cold eords and unfairness, and scribbled the name down, trying her best to make it look like her mother's handwriting. Picking the form up, she admired her work and smiled a determined smile. She was in for the spelling contest and no one could stop her... Si Yun Felicia

1)There was a bellow of collective outrage.the whole of the mouse community surged toward Despereaux. The mice seemed to become one angry body with hundreds of tails and thousands of whiskers and one huge, hungry mouth opening and closing and opening and closing, saying over and over and over,"To the dungeon. To the dungeon. To the dungeon." 2)This ,thought Despereaux, was the world he was leaving behind, the world that he knew and loved. And somewhere in it ,the Princess Pea was laughing and smiling and clapping her hands to music, unaware of Despereaux's fate. That he would not be able to let the princess know what had become of him seemed suddenly un bearable to the mouse. 3)The royal family was surrounded by knights in shining armor and horses in shining armor. and atop each member of the royal family'head, there was a golden crown, and they were all,the king and the queen and the princess, dressed in robes decorated with jewels and sequins that glittered and glowed and captured the light of the setting sun and reflected it back. 4)The teacher stomped into the room with loud thud. Her face was molten larva. She was boiling with rage .She clenched her fist in anger. Her fist landed on the table with a loud thud.Seething with anger, she bared her teeth in an ugly snarl. she vented,"Where is my work???"She threw her books and pencil box on the ground with great force."Not again......"the class sighed. phyllis Labels: angry
My Own Snapshot
My Own Snapshot The newspaper crinkled occasionally as my father read, eyebrows furrowed as he read the fine print of the newspaper, just like mine do when I read. In the background, the television blared, casting shadows on the wall. When he was done with the newspaper, my father turned to the television, flipping through channels in impatience and exasperation as all he could see was commercials. Written By: Roxanne Yew

1.Sergeant Enoch Samways,as I knew very well, was the village policeman .He was a huge plump man man with a bristly black moustache, and he trode up and down our High Street with the proud and measured treadof a man who knows he is in charge. The silver button on his uniform sparked like diamond and the mere sight of him frightened me so much I used to cross over to the other side of the street whenever he approached. 2.The pit had been dug in the shape of a square, with each side about six feet long.but the depth of it that was so awful. It was at least twelve feet deep. The sides had been cut straight down into the earth, presumably with the mechanical shovel, and no man could have climbed out of it without help. 3.He was a smallish man with a cap on his head and a big double barrelled shotgun under his arms.Henever moved. He was like a little post standing there. all are from Roald Dahl(Danny the champion of the world) 4.Mrs Lim stormed into the classroom. She was steaming mad.She sat down as she tried to keep her cool."Tom!"she screamed.A tiny, skinny spectacled boy dragged his feet towards mrs Lim.His feet was rooted to the ground, mouth agape.Mrs lim gave him a dressing down for stealing Ken's money. 1)Anyone who knew Violet well could tell she was thinking hard, because her long hair was tied up in a ribbon to keep it out of her eyes.Violet had a real knack for inventing and building strange devices, so her brain was often filled with images of pulleys, levers and gears, and she never wanted to be distracted by something trivial as her hair. 2)Klaus was a little older than twelve and wore glasses, which maade him look intelligent. He was intelligent. The Bauldelaire parents had an enormous library in their mansion, a room filled with thousands of books on nearly every subject.Being only twelve, Klaus of course had not read all of the books in the Baudelaire library library, but he had read a great many of them and had retained a lot of the information from the readings. He knew how to tell an alligator from a crocodile. He knew who killed Julius Caesar. And he knew about the tiny, slimy animals found at Briny Beach, which he was examining now. 3)Sunny Baudelaire, the youngest, liked to bite through things. She was an infant, and very small for her age, scarcely larger than a boot. What she lacked in size, however, she made up for with the size and sharpness of her four teeth.Sunny was at an age where one mostly speaks in a series of unintelligible speech All 3 snapshots are from :A Series of Unfortunate Events-The Bad Beginning 4)If i were to describe a fierce and serious teacher, she would be tall with thick, black spectacles with her hair tied up in a tight bun, all prim and proper. She would be in an office suit with high heels, carrying a stack of books wit a cane in her hand, ready to whack anyone misbehaving at any time. Author:Soh Jun Heng 1. With a heavy heart, I tried to continue my work. Tears kept streaming down my face. I hung my head, afraid the others could see me cry and say I was a cry baby. The room was filled with silence after my mother scolding, except for my sobs. My eyes turned puffy and red. (Author: Nurul Syahirah) 2. In the bathroom, after I blew my nose with toilet paper, I was able to stop crying. But I could see in the mirror that my eyeballs were red, so I tried to think of somethimg to make me happy and turn them back to white. Staring at myself at the mirror, I remembered how Betsy thought my fantasies were dumb and never wanted me to describe them to her. But my fantasies make me feel better. I could see that my eyes weren't that red anymore, so I blew my nose one more time and headed back to class. (Title: Thank-You, Lucky Stars) (Author: Beverely Donofrio) 3. I hugged my pillow over my face so my mother wouldn't hear me crying. After dinner, I went to my favourite spot in the house-the basement. I jumped onto the back of the sofa and slid down the pole that held up the ceiling in the middle of the room. I kept doing that until I was bored; then I twirled around the pole till I got dizzy and had to sit on the floor. (Title: Thank-You, Lucky Stars) (Author: Beverely Donofrio) 4. The youngsters followed Justice Strauss out the door and over to her well-kept house. She led them through an elegant hallway smelling of flowers into an enormous room, and when they saw what was inside, they nearly fainted from delight, Klaus especially. Akeela and the Bee
Akeelah slammed the door with the sole of her white shoe, gritting her teeth with simulated fury. She threw her bag on the floor with such great force that the bag gave out a loud thud-the sound of books plopping down. Akeelah threw herself onto the wooden chair, and furrowed her eyebrows. She needed to think of how she could convince her mother to let her go for the spelling bee. Her mother would not hear of it, as she would miss school. She needed to complete Summer School to make up for all the classes she had missed. She had to go for the bee, she just had to! Akeelah lifted her eyes, resting on the photograph of her black father. "You'll let me do it," Akeelah sighed sorrowfully. She let her eyes fall back down to look at her hands, lying motionlessly on her long jacket. Then, she had a brainwave. Should she forge her father's signature? Her father's photograph stared at her, as if allowing her to do such an act, that small smile of his cheering up the solemn girl. Akeelah whipped out her form. She decided not to waste any more time thinking about it anymore. She began to think of her father's signature. It was cursive, but did it look like Lucida Handwriting, or Monotype Corsiva? After choosing the right font, Akeelah mustered up her courage, and began to sign... Author: Valerie

Snapshot on Akeela and the Bee "Ring!" the judges rang the bell, and the poor girl before Akeela let out a desperate gasp and ran off the stage into her mother's arms. The words were getting harder and harder but Akeela was confident that she could do it. She had come so far without any family encouragement and she knew she needed to fulfill her dream of winning the spelling bee. "Next please," the judge said, and Akeela walked up to the microphone. "Schematic." Akeela was surprised by the easiness of the word. Just as she was beginning to spell, she saw out of the corner of her eye, a familiar figure stalking into the room. It was her mother. There was a flicker of panic in her eyes as Akeela bit her lip. She could faintly hear her mother snapping at the principal - "I want that girl off that stage right now!" She strained her ears to listen, forgetting that the judges were still waiting for her to complete her wod. "- E - M - A," she murmured, and when she finally completed the word, the principal was explaining an inportant matter to the judges and gesturing her to come. Akeela's heart skipped a beat as she made her way off the stage. "What will Mama do?" she thought, coming face to face with her.
Snapshot on a father ( So not my dad though )
Father came home with the click of the key and slumped on the couch, ripping his silver lined glasses off and placing them on the coffee table. "I'm hungry!" he demanded, and snatching the remote that was laid carelessly on the floor, he flicked from one channel to another, leaving me annoyed as I was watching my programme before. Mother plopped the food in front of him and he sat up, examined the dishes and nodded his head. As he ate, he asked me to pass him the newspapers which he had forgotten to read in the morning. He flipped page by page, glancing at the television program from time to time and feeding mouthfulls of rice to himself. When Father was at home, he was the boss and he got everything he wanted. Father was a man with pride. Written by: Felicia Lee Si Yun Done by: Felicia Lee Si Yun >_<

Improvement on Akeelah and the Bee (Forge)
“Slam!” Went the door as Akeelah angrily slammed it after making her way into her room, venting all her anger and sadness on it. She threw her bag on the floor with a loud thud, the sound of books, stationeries and other items crashing down, against each other. She slumped into her chair and, with hands crossed and head lowered, Akeelah cried softly to herself, so soft the crying was, that you had to lean so ever closely to her to hear a faint crying sound. As Akeelah thought more and more about her mother’s strong objection to her participating in the Spelling Bee, fury started building inside her and she cried harder and harder. Lifting her head up, Akeelah glared hard at then computer keyboard. She had to find a way to participate in the Spelling bee. She had to. Her eyebrows furrowed into a V-shape. Her eyes darted around her room as Akeelah thought of ways and means to participate in it. Finally, her eyes rested on a photo of her Father, smiling a lovely, warm smile that made Akeelah feel a lot better. “ You’ll let me do this.” She said. Just then, she had a brainwave. She grabbed hold on a black pen among the pens scattered all over her table. She held the pen firmly, hesitated for a moment, then took in a huge breath and let it out and signed her father’s name on the consent form for the Spelling bee on the line meant for parent’s signature, trying to make her handwriting look like her father’s. She was going to the Spelling bee and nothing could stand in her way, not even her mother. Bao Hui :D

There was a look of pure hatred in those eyes. It looked as if his eyes were fire-breathing dragons. His chest was heaving up and down. His nostrils were flared up. She had a lovely pale oval Madonna face with blue eyes and her hair was light- brown. Her body was so slim and fragile that one got the feeling that if she fell over she would smash into a thousand pieces, like a porcelain figure. Author: Roald Dahl -”Matilda” Done by: Vasu Namdeo 4.She had once been a famous athlete, and even now the muscles were still clearly in evidence. You could see them in the bull- neck, in the big shoulders, in the thick arms, in the sinewy wrists and in the powerful legs. Looking at her, you got the feeling that this was someone who could bend bars and tear telephone directories into half. Her face, I’m afraid, was neither a thing of beauty nor joy forever. She had an obstinate chin, a cruel mouth and small arrogant eyes. And as for her clothes… they were, to say the least, extremely odd. She always had on a brown cotton smock which was pinched in around her waist with a wide leather belt. The belt was fastened in front of an enormous silver buckle. Her massive thighs which emerged from out of the smock were encased in a pair of extraordinary breeches, bottle- green in colour and made of coarse twill. These breaches reaches to just below the knees and from there on down, she sported green stocking with turn- up tops, which displayed her calf muscles to perfection. On her feet she wore flat- heeled brown brogues with leather flaps. Author: Roald Dahl -”Matilda” Done by: Vasu Namdeo

1.There was something painfully beautiful about the swans. The whiteness, the elegance of them on this dark lake, the incredible ease of their movements made Sara catch her breath as she and Charlie rounded the dump of pines. 2.Sara sat in the living room wearing her cut-off blue jeans, an old shirt with Property of State Prison stamped on the back which Wanda had brought her from the beach, and her puce tennis shoes. She was sitting in the doorway, leaning back against the door with her arms wrapped around her knees, listening to Aunt Willie, who was making a telephone call in the hall. 3.She could not speak for a moment. There lay the whole valley in a way she had never imagined it, a tiny figure of civilization set in a sweeping expanse of dark forest. The black treetops seemed to crowed against the yards, the houses, the roads, giving the impression that at any moment the trees would close over the houses like waves and leave nothing but an unbroken line of black-green leaves waving in the sunlight. Father took his usual seat in the black, leather reclining chair, with a copy of the daily newspaper in his hands. His eyes narrowed as he squinted to see the tiny words printed on the newspaper. With a sigh, he reached for his pair of metallic silver rectangular frame of myopic glasses and hastily put them on, eager to read about this interesting and fascinating article, which its headlines caught his eye, making them twinkle as he flipped from page to page, trying to find a catchy headline. After he read that article with eyes wide opened, he flipped ,again, from page to page, scanning each article's headline, desperate, to find a something, just something, for him to read. Ah! Father's bleary eyes lit up suddenly, glittering. He had found a new article, a really catchy one. He read the papers close, very close to his eyes, despite the fact that he had a very high degree of myopia and read it.......' Author: Chia Bao Hui :D (Hope you like it. Sorry it's a bit too long, though.) Hi everybody!Look at my snapshot of Akeela and the Bee! As Javier watched Akeela walk off the stage, he felt a surge of panice take over him, his eyes widened in horror. What if Akeela could not come back onto the stage in time? No, he was not going to let her be disqualified."Next please," The judges announced. Javier stood up, moved slowly and deliberately towards the microphone. "Now, come a little faster please,"the judges said as they waited impatiently for Javier to come forward. whwen he finally came up, the judges said,"Silhouette." Oh no, thought Javier as he wondered how long Akeela might take with her mother. "Umm... definition please? Can you say it in a sentnce? Can you use it in a song?" Jvier murmured. The judges were getting more and more annoyed, as they sighed and furrowed their eyebrows at him.

Mother slammed her fist, hard on the table. The veins on her neck were protruding out. I knew that I was dead meat. “Mum-“I was interrupted by her sharp, stern voice. “Into your room. NOW!” I dashed into my room, and slammed the door hard behind me. I wanted to scream, to relieve some of my agony. But I couldn’t. I hated her. Done by: Sheryl (please don't laugh at my snapshot. “Slam!” went the door when Akeelah kicked the door close with the sole of her feet, venting all her anger on it. Her mother was just so unreasonable! She stamped in and threw down her bag with such great force that a loud “THUD” was heard and the sound of the books slamming together thudding on the carpeted floor. She plopped down on her chair with arms folded across her chest. Thinking of her mother, she glared angrily down at the keyboard as if her looks could kill. She tried to calm herself down by breathing slowly as her eyes crawled up the wall full of framed pictures until they came to rest on the picture of her handsome father. Immediately, her anger melted away. Lovingly, she recalled the happy times she and her father had and how he always supported her in whatever she does. “You will let me do it”. She said, sighing deeply and looked down at her hands. Suddenly, an idea came to her mind and her eyes lifted and sparkled as brightly as gems. She took a black ball-point pen and grasped the pen tightly, ready to forge her father’s signature on the consent form laid neatly on the table, without a cease. Just as the ink was about to leave a stain on the paper, she froze there for a few doubtful seconds, trembling like a leaf. Deep in her heart, she hated herself for doing this. But in another way, she had to. Just to enter the spelling Bee contest. Knowing her father’s signature well, she held her breath and closed her eyes and looked away. She knew if she delayed a second more, guilt will overcome her and she would change her mind. As the ink created an uneraseable stain on the paper, painfully, the pen flew across the paper gracefully. When Akeelah opened her eyes to look at it, she signed in relief that the forged signature was just right. She sat back in her chair and tucked the paper in her bag though she knew guilt would haunt her forever… Author: Belinda<3 I paid my taxi fare to the driver and stepped out of the taxi. Stood before me was a school. I took a deep breath as I walked through the school gates and up to the class I was assigned to. I walked along the corridor and looked for the classroom. Before I could even reach there, I could already hear shrieks and shouts. I thought race through my mind: Is that the class I am supposed to go? I hoped not. I walked and walked and passed many classrooms. Just as I passed the noisy one, I glanced up at the sign and realized that that was the classroom I was suppose to go. I stopped short. Reversing back and look at the sign again making sure my eyes were not playing tricks on me. And that was the class. I grasped the books tightly and went in. To my surprise they took no notice of my arrival and continued their shrieking. When I could no longer stand the noise, I walked to the centre of the class and shouted "QUIET!" Still nobody took any notice of me and continued the dreadful din. I repeated that again and out came the same result. I gave up and gave a huge sigh as I plopped down on the roller chair. My first day in school as a teacher. Author: Belinda<3 It was a glorious start-of-autumn day, with everything green and gold, hot and still. There was not a soul around, and very little sound except the lonely crunch of Cat's and Janet's feet as they hurried through the formal garden. Halfway through the orchard, Janet said, "If the garden we want looks like a ruined castle, we're going away from it now." Cat could have sworn they were heading straight for it, but, sure enough, when he stopped and looked around, the high sun-soaked old wall was right behind them. And now he came to think of it, he could not remember how he and Gwendolen had got to it before. Title: Charmed life Author :Diana Wynne Jones Contributed :Belinda The first great change came about when their parents took them out for a day trip down the river in a paddle steamer. They set out in great style, Gwendolen and her mother in white dresses with ribbons, Cat and his father in prickly blue serge Sunday suits. It was a hot day. The steamer was crammed with other people in holiday clothes, talking, laughing, eating whelks with thin slices of white bread and butter, while the paddle boat steam organ wheezed out popular tunes so that no one could hear themselves talk. She longed to duck underneath them and lean out of the window to see what the world looked like now that the witching hour was at hand. She listened again. Everywhere it was deathly still. The longing to look out became so strong she coun't resist it. Quickly, she ducked under the curtains and leaned out of the window. Title: The BFG Author: Roald Dahl Contributed: Belinda :D

This is such a wonderful way of describing an annoying person! Lynn said Uncle Katsuhisa was an odd fish. He was as loud as my father was quiet. Even when he wasn't talking, he made a lot of noise, clearing his troat and sniffing and tapping his fingers. Sometimes, for no reason that I could see, he would suddenly stand up and clap his hands together really loudly. After he got everyone's attention, he would sit down again. He even made noise when he was thinking. When he was deep in thought, he had a way of turning his ears inside out so they looked kind of deformed. The ears would make a popping sound when they came undone. Book name: Kira-kira Written by: Cynthia Kadohata Done by: Felicia Lee Si Yun

My father was mild, like the sea on a windless day, with an unruffled surface and little variation. He was as hard as the wall in our bedroom. Just to prove how strong he was, he used to let us hit him in the stomach as hard as we could. Some days we would sneak up on him and punch him in the stomach, and he never even noticed. We would sneak away while he kept listening to the radio as if nothing had happened. Book name: Kira-kira Written by: Cynthia Kadohata Done by: Felicia Lee Si Yun

Snapshots: (A dog)1) I would always remember the times with you...I stared at a picture on my desk. Her joyful smile never failed to make me grin, she had the prettiest golden coat. It was so bright that the name "Sunshine" was perfect. But this time, it was different. Tears filled my eyes, they followed my cheeks like an uncontrollable waterfall. Memories, sad memories flashed thorugh my head as I remembered how she said her final goodbye to me when a red and white car took her away from me... 'I'll never forget you,' I thought sadly. Author : Me >Cindy Chow (Ocean)2) There it is:her smell. My skin is instantly sticky with its chilled saltiness. I'm peering through the car window for a glimpse of her, but everybody knows that you always smell the ocean way before you see her. If I didn't love Mum and Sam as much as I do, I'd still come here - just for her. I've never known anything quite so powerful and angry and wild yet peaceful and lazy. The great diva and her extravagant mood swings stroke my spirit and my senses, every single one of them. Today she's playful and stricking; a flurry of blue-black energetic curls glinting with white crests that catch the pale winter sun everytime she exposes herself this way and that. She doesn't want us to miss a thing. I'm so consumed by her show of clapping and cavorting that I don't even notice the building growing larger in distance. From: The Pursuit of Liberty Belle Author: Amber Deckers (Meditating room with Christmas decorations)3) I take a moment to absorb the warm interior glowing with soft lighting and creamy neutral colours. Mum and Loutus are Zen Minimalists, which means that they're only supposed to own what they really need.So there's brown hessian to warm the wooden floor, a low-slung table made up of railway sleepers to rest things on, and scattered floor cushions covered intricate embroidery and patchworks of shiny material to sit on. Mum and Lotus meditate in this room at least once a day. I don't suppose the garish glare of red and green tinsel and the view of the ever-present angel skewered by the tip of the fake Christmas helps their spiritual complemplation much. From: The Pursuit of Liberty Belle Author: Amber Deckers (Describing Victorian stereograph) 4) ‘Look through the glass.’ Again, I do as I’m told. The postcards are suddenly and miraculously transformed into spectacular three-dimensional images of the seaside. There are bobbing boats, their sails filled-to-bursting with the breeze, seagulls diving beak-first into the high-tipped ocean, and beaches washed smooth and glistening by the churning waves. Looking through the lenses, I’m overwhelmed by the sudden and very strange sensation that I’ve entered the postcards. It’s like I’m actually there, floating amongst the seagulls and waves and boats with puffed-out sails. From: The Pursuit of Liberty Belle Author: Amber Deckers (Akeelah and Bee) 5) Bursting with fury, she stomped inside her room. ‘Slam’ Akeelah kicked the door and a loud slam could be heard. With gritted teeth, she dumped her bag on the ground and slouched on the chair in front of her desk. Akeelah stored on the ground. Her eyebrows furrowed in anger. She clenched her fists. ‘It’s not fair…’ Akeelah thought furiously. Then, she signed, she knew that her mother would never change her mind. She looked up at a picture of her father. He stared back at her, smiling joyfully. “You’d let me go….” Akeelah whispered longingly as memories of being with her father flashed back. Her hopes were shattered, there was not a bit of chance to attend the contest. Suddenly, Akeelah got an idea. She strengthen up, her face brightened. ‘What if….’ She thought. She twitched her mouth. She was full of doubts. ‘ Should I … well! That’s the only way!’ Akeelah grabbed a pen. Taking the parent consent form, Akeelah signed as her father. Then a smile grew and stretched across her face as he admired the forged signature. Author: Cindy Chow By: Cindy Chow Jia Lin |
